9th January 2005 Windsurfing: Golf Course Car park, Ynyslas Wind Direction: SSW Wind Stength: 20-35 knots Surf / Sea State: 4 foot surf Air Temperature: 8ºC Sea Temperature: 9ºC Weather: Light Rain Max Speed: 22.5 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 9.76 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise) There didn't seem to be much wind on the beach, but it looked windier out the back so I riggedd my big board for the lulls and 5m sail for the gusts. To start with this was just fine and I had some good runs in and out through the pretty powerful surf. The wind soon picked up quite a bit though so I dispensed with the big board, got my little wave board and flattened off my sail. Once again, this was perfect for a while and led to some pretty big jumps. It was hard work out there though. The wind continued to pick up with some monstrous gusts so I soon had to change down to my 4.5m. The wind also backed more southerlt and became pretty gusty, so I had a hard time with the smaller kit. Sometimes I would be maxed out, others there was barely enough to get going. I hoped the wind wouls swing back again but it didn't so after a few arguments with the punchy waves decided it was best to call it a day. I had a few fast runs, but my GPS seemed to be having trouble getting a signal today. It worked most of the time but I only got to 22.5 knots... It felt faster than that! |
